The BMC’s mission is to conduct excellent research, education, training and outreach in the field of Biomedicine.

All of these tasks are made possible by and benefit from the contributions and talents of the people at the BMC. We value the diversity and achievements of all our staff and researchers. We strive to uphold the principles of equality and diversity in all areas and to create a working environment characterized by respect, participation and scientific integrity.

In 2021, the Diversity Initiative was launched by 23 BMC employees, spearheaded by Prof. Dr. Antje Grosche, Diversity and Inclusion Officer on the BMC Board at that time. Its goal is to specifically address and raise awareness about Diversity and Equality at the BMC, and to put ideas into practice that promote and strengthen our research community.

This initiative has resulted in get-togethers, workshops, events, the new@BMC orientation meetings and the Code of Conduct 2024.

Further information and BMC facts on this topic are available on our poster (download, pdf).

Current Diversity and Inclusion Officer on the BMC Board (a rotating position): Prof. Dr. Barbara Schraml-Schotta (since Fall 2023)

The BMC Diversity and Inclusion Working Group is always open to additional members. If you are enthusiastic about topics related to gender equality, diversity, and/or intercultural issues (e.g. work culture, welcome culture, integration …), consider joining the BMC Diversity and Inclusion working group. Your perspective and ideas are more than welcome!
