About the BMC
With the Biomedical Center (BMC), the LMU has convened its research divisions in the Biomedical Sciences at the internationally renowned HighTechCampus in Martinsried/Grosshadern. The local scientific environment offers excellent resources and infrastructure, providing unique opportunities for cutting-edge interdisciplinary research in the life sciences. The Biomedical Center is in close vicinity with LMU University Hospital, the Faculties for Chemistry and Pharmacy (including the Gene Center and the BioSysM), the Faculty of Biology (Biocenter), the German Center for Neurodegenerative diseases (DZNE-Munich), the Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research as well as the Max Planck Institutes for Biochemistry and Biological Intelligence and the Innovation and Start-Up Center Biotechnology (IZB).
The BMC regards itself as the Center of Applied Cell Science where BMC researchers explore the plasticity of cell programs during differentiation and in response to environmental stimuli.
The Biomedical Center joins most of the large institutes and chairs of the Medical Faculty of LMU Munich with preclinical, research-oriented and clinical expertise. Six Core Facilities support research at the BMC by providing different high-tech methodologies.
