Research Areas

The new Biomedical Center joins several large institutes and chairs of the LMU's medical faculty with preclinical, clinical-theoretical and clinical expertise. These include the chairs of Molecular Biology, Physiological Chemistry, Cell Biology (Anatomy III) and Metabolic Biochemistry as well as the institutes for Physiology, Immunology, Clinical Neuroimmunology and Cardiovascular Physiology and Pathophysiology.

BMC research focuses on epigenetics, DNA damage protection, the dynamics of cellular structure and differentiation, in particular the development and interconnection of nerve cells. These areas of basic research are complemented with applied topics like neurogenesis, neurodegeneration and neuronal regeneration. Moreover, BMC scientists explore how cells cooperate during the immune response and how cells adapt under various conditions of cardiovascular physiology, such as angiogenesis.
