The Animal Welfare Working Group of the Core Facility Animal Models receives the EPAA Refinement Award 2023

Dana Matzek receives EPAA Refinement Award 2023 for her work on group housing of rabbits.

The European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing (EPAA)– promotes outstanding contributions to the refinement of animal testing. Every two years the Refinement Prize, endowed with 6,000 euros, is awarded at the EPAA conference. This year, the 2023 prize went to the work of Dana Matzek et al. "Evaluation of a Configurable, Mobile and Modular Floor-Pen System for Group-Housing of Laboratory Rabbits". Dana Matzek is a senior animal caretaker in the Core Facility Animal Models and a member of the Animal Welfare working group. The 3R study on the development of the mobile-R-pen was carried out under the supervision of PD Dr. Bastian Popper. The prize was awarded at the EPAA annual congress on November 15 in Brussels.
