Europe’s largest climate conference for young people at the BMC

Europe’s largest climate conference for young people at the BMC

The Local Conference of Youth LCOY took place at the BMC on the weekend of October 6th-8th, 2023. 1,500 participants from all over Germany and beyond used the opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas with representatives from politics, science, and economy.

Discussing, educating, and networking on all aspects of climate (change) – this is the aim of the LCOY. It has been held annually since 2019 and is the largest climate conference for young people in Europe.

The varied program of the conference consisted of interactive workshops, a stage program and supporting program. Within the workshops, topics such as circular economy, climate justice, energy and transport transition as well as sustainable housing and living were addresses and discussed intensively.
The stage program included the 2nd Mayor of Munich, Katrin Habenschaden (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), Ricarda Lang (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), and Peter Altmaier (CDU). In addition, there were lectures and panel discussions with other representatives from politics, economy, academia, and various organizations.
The colorful supporting program included an exchange of clothes, books, and seedlings, a sports program, music, and many opportunities to talk to each other.

“The program was so varied that it was difficult for me to choose just one event at a time. The workshops and lectures I attended were all very interesting, they depicted problems as well as solutions. Many aspects were taken up and encouraged to reflect and act. I am already looking forward to participating in LCOY 2024!”, said a participant of LCOY 2023

The LCOY was organized by a team of around 50 volunteers, including LMU students, and supported locally by BMC and LMU staff.

LCOY 2024 will take place in Berlin.
